Hubbard Claims TU's All-Time Scoring Record in Home Victory

Jason Hubbard set the all-time program record for points with a basket in the second half in Taylor's 76-67 victory against Spring Arbor (8-11, 2-7 CL).

The Miamisburg native scored 24 points to put him at a total of 2,223 in his career, which surpassed Jim Bushur, who set the record 35 years ago with 2,213 career points.

Hubbard tied the record with a pull-up jumper with just under nine minutes remaining in the game. Two minutes later, Hubbard drove to the basket and laid in a bucket to claim the record for his own. The fifth-year starter grabbed the record in his 133rd game at TU, which is one fewer than it took Bushur, as he played in 134 games during his career at Taylor.

The Forward now sits in 30th on the CL's career scoring leaders, and he became the 60th player in league history to eclipse 2,000 points earlier this season.

Hubbard was honored before the game with a commemorative ball from the 68-62 win over Grace on December 10, in which he scored a late bucket to surpass 2,000 points.

When the festivities concluded and the game began, Kaden Fuhrmann scored ten straight points for Taylor to take an early 17-10 lead.

Spring Arbor clawed its way back to tie the game at 23 before Hubbard splashed a three-pointer to give TU the lead again.

Jeff Clayton scored off a nice move after a deft pass off the pick and roll from Hubbard that gave the Trojans a six-point advantage with under four minutes left in the first half.

The Cougars used a late run to go into the break ahead 38-36.

Neither team could get much separation until Taylor went on a 17-4 run to a nine-point lead which was the largest of the game for either squad.

Spring Arbor cut the lead to two with five minutes left but could get no closer as an Anton Webb dunk put the exclamation mark on the victory for the Trojans.

TU (11-8, 5-4 CL) shot an efficient 53.4 percent from the field and committed only five turnovers, while five different Trojans registered a block on the defensive end.

Fuhrmann scored 19 points to compliment Hubbard as the junior guard continues his late-season resurgence. Fuhrmann has averaged over 16 points per game over the last five games for the Trojans.
