Hubbard Leaps into Second on TU's Scoring List in Home Victory

Jason Hubbard scored 29 points in Taylor's 71-59 victory over Goshen to leap into second place on Taylor's all-time scoring list on Wednesday night.

Hubbard hit a jumper late in the first half to pass Casey Coons, who amassed 2,138 points during an illustrious four-year career at TU. Coons was named Honorable Mention NAIA All-American his junior and senior seasons and helped TU to a 67-57 record during his career, which included seasons of 20 and 21 wins.

Hubbard now sits at 2,154 career points, which puts him only 59 points behind Jim Bushur for the program record. Hubbard has excelled recently with games of 55, 31, and 29 in a five-game stretch.

Gavin Yoon responded well to coming off the bench, connecting on four buckets in the first half, including two triples for 10 of his 15 points before the break.

The teams traded buckets for the majority of the first half before Taylor used a 10-3 run to take a 30-22 lead, with Hubbard and Yoon splashing in triples during the run that helped the Trojans carry an eight-point advantage into the locker room.

Goshen (2-13, 0-5 CL) fought back in the second half and an eight-point run in just over three minutes collimated in its first lead since midway through the first half.

TU quickly responded with a Fuhrmann three to retake the lead, with Anton Webb connecting on a triple to extend the lead moments later.

The Maple Leafs did not go away, cutting the TU lead to just one with under seven minutes left in the game.

The Trojans went on a defining 16-4 run thereafter, which concluded in a Hubbard dunk on a fast break to seal the game with one minute remaining.

Jackson Lewis stuffed the stat sheet with six assists, four steals, and five rebounds to go along with five points in an impressive display for the sophomore.

TU (9-7, 3-3 CL) had one of its best shooting nights behind the arc, hitting ten threes while shooting 37 percent. The defense also stepped up to force 18 turnovers and grab nine steals to help secure another Crossroads League victory.
