September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

Joining communities like ours across the state, region and country, the City of Huntington issued a proclamation Friday morning for suicide prevention and awareness.

September is known globally as Suicide Prevention and Action Month, raising the visibility of mental health resources and suicide prevention services. Anyone in distress is encouraged to reach out for the support and understanding you need. You are not alone, and there are countless professionals and community members ready to stand beside you.

A list of resources can be found below:

  • For those 18 and younger, Youth Services Bureau of Huntington County has Safe Place crisis staff on call 24/7 who can be reached at (260) 530-7676.
  • LookUpIndiana.org offers around-the-clock help via its online chat tool, a crisis hotline at (877) 257-0208 or by texting “LOOKUP” to 494949.
  • Dial 988 to call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Online chat and other resources can be found at 988lifeline.org.
The Youth Services Bureau of Huntington County will host a Walk for Hope this Saturday, September 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Huntington North High School’s new multi-purpose facility. Everyone is invited to walk to raise awareness or in the memory of a loved one.
