Transportation Dept. Honored Nationally for Extended Health Precautions

City of Marion Transportation Dept. employees were each presented with a special award recognizing them as “Frontline Heroes” during a public meeting Monday, Aug. 22nd, 2022.

In late 2021, National RTAP (Rural Transit Assistance Program) nominators distributed the certificates “to all rural frontline transit heroes,” whom they explained, “unselfishly provided and continue to provide essential transportation services during the COVID-19 Pandemic.”

Transportation Director, Jeff Edwards, localized RTAP’s praises. “When nearly everything else stopped, the Marion Transit System continued to provide services, and even went above and beyond each day to sanitize the buses vigorously, and take passengers to and from medical appointments and fulfill other essential destinations.

Mayor Jess Alumbaugh as well as members of the Marion Common Council were present for the presentation. All but two Transportation employees were present to receive the awards.
